Oakdale is planning a series of seminars and tours related to borough history.
The new Hometown History Series will kick off May 18, on the 95th anniversary of the Aetna chemical plant explosion.
West Allegheny High School social studies teacher Dan Prevade will give a presentation on the 1918 disaster and aftermath, followed by a tour of related sites. The program starts at noon at the ROCK Youth & Family Center, 150 W. State St., and is free and open to the public.
The series will enhance the identity of the 120-year-old town, Councilman Jonathan DeBor said tonight.
"It's one more thing the borough can do to keep that history alive," he said.neigh_west
