A judge ruled today that an Imperial mother will head to trial on charges that she loaned her son two guns that he used to shoot three people, killing one, at a North Fayette bar in March.

Gloria J. Mazzocco, 60, is charged with a count of conspiracy and two firearms violations. A third firearms violation was dropped.

Her son, David Mazzocco, 25, of Imperial opened fire March 11 in the Fort Pitt Inn on Old Steubenville Pike, after a heated text message exchange with his girlfriend, police said.

Mr. Mazzocco told police his mother owned two of the guns he carried with him that day. Ms. Mazzocco told police she gave the guns to her son because he knew someone interested in purchasing them.

Ms. Mazzocco's formal arraignment is scheduled for June 10.

Mr. Mazzocco faces charges of homicide and attempted homicide. Four charges of recklessly endangering another person were withdrawn. He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting a May 9 formal arraignment.
