Seven surveillance cameras have been installed at the Five Points intersection in Imperial.

North Fayette police monitor the video feeds from their North Branch Road dispatch office and can immediately respond to emergencies in the high-traffic area, Chief Mark O'Donnell said tonight.

Police also can review the recordings for license plates and car accident details, he said.

The equipment was installed last year as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's $2.3 million improvement project. North Fayette gained access to the cameras a few weeks ago.

Five Points refers to the junction of Route 30, Route 978, West Allegheny Road and two sections of Steubenville Pike, near West Allegheny High School and the Imperial exit of Route 22/30.
