New Sewickley police filed additional drugs charges Wednesday against a former Freedom Area schoolteacher accused of snorting crushed pills of the prescription drug Percocet and offering them to a student last fall.

James Summers, 41, of Darlington, Beaver County, is now charged with drug possession with the intent to deliver, in addition to charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and corruption of minors filed in November, New Sewickley police Chief Ronald Leindecker said. The new charges were filed after lab results from the Pennsylvania State Police crime lab revealed the substance was the prescription painkiller, Percocet.

Freedom Area Superintendent Jeffrey Fuller conducted an internal investigation of possible misconduct by Mr. Summers last fall and installed a surveillance camera in his office.

The footage showed Mr. Summers inhaling a substance through a tube and, in later footage, showed him giving it to a juvenile to inhale.

Mr. Summers awaits a Feb. 22 preliminary hearing, according to online court records.
