An autopsy today found that Elizabeth Cannon died of a single gunshot wound to the head Wednesday afternoon on the second floor of her house in Stowe, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner's office.

The medical examiner's office ruled the 21-year-old's death a homicide.

Allegheny County police Lt. Andrew Schurman said Wednesday that police and firefighters went to 1513 Broadway Ave. about 2:30 p.m. after a man called 911 to say he had found his roommate, Andrew Sheets, 25, unconscious in the first-floor kitchen and smelled gas in the house.

The man left the home and when police entered they found Ms. Cannon, Mr. Sheets' girlfriend and roommate, shot to death in a second-floor bedroom.

Medics took Mr. Sheets to an undisclosed hospital and Lt. Schurman said his condition was stable Wednesday night and was expected to survive.
