State police said wet roads caused a crash on Interstate 79 that killed a motorist Thursday.
Gary Paul Visser, 53, of Hanover, York County was killed in the crash, which was reported about 2 p.m. on I-79 in Amwell, Washington County, according the county coroner’s office.
State police said Mr. Visser lost control of his vehicle as he was headed northbound on I-79, after passing a vehicle and hydroplaning on the wet highway. Mr. Visser’s car struck a guide rail and then collided with a tanker truck. He was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner’s office said.
A 16-year-old female passenger in Mr. Visser’s vehicle was not seriously injured, police said.
The driver of the truck, Paul Farmer Jr. of Steubenville, Ohio, was unhurt, according to police.
State police are investigating, but the coroner’s office ruled Mr. Visser’s death as accidental.
