McDonald police are investigating a single-car crash that left a driver dead.

Officers were called out at about 10:38 a.m. Sunday after a passing driver saw a car in a creek near Langloth-Eldersville Road at Plum Run Road Extension near Burgettstown, according to Washington County coroner's office.

The coroner's office identified the man as Phillip S. Wolanski, 47, of Washington. He was dead when police arrived.

Mr. Wolanski was driving a Lincoln sedan east on Langloth-Eldersville Road when he went through a left bend in the road, crossed the center line and went off the road up a hillside, the coroner's office said in a press release. The sedan went airborne then landed on Plum Run extension before going over a hillside into the creek bed.

Authorities aren't sure when the crash occurred. Cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy and further investigation.
