Five people were taken to hospitals throughout the region after a three-vehicle crash late Thursday in Washington County.

Richeyville Volunteer Fire Chief Dave Pohill said three people were flown by medical helicopter to Pittsburgh hospitals and another was taken to Uniontown Hospital after the crash on National Pike near Spring Road in West Pike Run, shortly after 11 p.m.

A fifth person suffered some type of medical emergency at the scene and was taken the Mon Valley Hospital, he said. Chief Pohill described the injuries as minor to moderate.

A dispatch supervisor said there was a report that people had been trapped in their vehicles.

The crash scene was cleared about 1:20 a.m., the chief said. Police in Centerville are investigating and could not be immediately reached Friday.
