A woman died Wednesday night after she was found lying face down in water along a Washington County riverbank, the coroner's office said today.

Peggy Redmond, 59, of Centerville, left to take a walk along the Monongahela River about 5 p.m., her husband told officials. When she did not return by about 7 p.m., her husband went to find her and spotted her lying in water behind her home on Vesta Seven Road, according to a press release from Washington County Coroner Tim Warco.

First-responders attempted to resuscitate Ms. Redmond and transported her to the Monongahela Valley Hospital emergency room, where she was pronounced dead at 8:01 p.m.

Coroner Warco said the cause and manner of Ms. Redmond's death are pending an autopsy and further investigation.

Centerville Borough police are investigating.
