A preliminary hearing for the former Washington County Common Pleas judge accused of stealing cocaine submitted as evidence has been scheduled for Aug. 21, court officials said today.

Paul Pozonsky, 57, has been charged with theft, drug possession, obstruction and a violation of state ethics laws after a state police investigation revealed bags which contained plastic baggies the drugs were in had been tampered with and evidence seals on some had been broken.

Armstrong County Senior District Judge Michael Gerheim will preside over the hearing at the Washington County courthouse.

A June 13 proceeding had been postponed.

After a 14-year career during which he oversaw many high-profile criminal cases and started the Drug Treatment Court, Mr. Pozonsky retired last year during a Pennsylvania grand jury investigation.
