McDonald council agreed tonight to give Heritage Library a $5,000 allocation earlier than planned.

Council president Marilou Ritchie said the funds will boost efforts to replace the library roof, a project expected to cost at least $18,000.

The borough budget this year earmarks about $7,000 for the library, with about $5,000 funded by a 0.75-mill property tax. The money normally would have been distributed in July and December installments.

"We have the money; they need it. My recommendation is to give it to them," finance chairman Pat Powell said.

The library, 52 Fourth St., will receive the balance of its allotment at year's end, he said.
