A Charleroi man pleaded guilty Monday to making false statements to a federal firearms licensee.

Jeffrey Cochenour, 41, was accused in January of going to a Gander Mountain store and claiming that he was buying a 7.62x39 mm rifle for himself, when he was actually buying it for another person.

Sentencing is set for Aug. 9 before U.S. District Judge Terrence F. McVerry.

The prosecution was one of several that U.S. Attorney David Hickton cited in February as examples of vigorous enforcement of federal gun laws.
