A Windgap man died Tuesday when he drove a pickup truck into oncoming traffic and collided with a tractor-trailer, snarling the southbound lanes of Interstate 79 near Southpointe in Washington County for several hours.

Mark Chesick, 45, was driving northbound on Interstate 79 when his truck crossed into opposing traffic and collided with a tractor-trailer truck heading southbound, Washington County coroner Tim Warco said in a news release. Mr. Chesick, who was driving alone, was thrown from the pick-up truck and died at the crash scene.

The highway remained closed for at least two hours.
