A Washington County man was in jail Monday on charges that he tried unsuccessfully to kill his wife because he was angry that she spent too much time on Facebook.

Harry Hibbs Jr., 51, was being held in the Washington County Correctional Facility on $500,000 bail on charges of attempted homicide, assault and reckless endangerment.

North Strabane police received a call shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve for a report that a man tried to shoot his wife inside their trailer in the 1400 block of Route 136.

Mr. Hibbs' wife, Anna Hibbs, told police her husband held a gun to her face and fired, but the gun jammed.

She also told them that Mr. Hibbs pushed her onto a bed while she was holding her 2-year-old child and hit her in the face with a gun, according to a police report. Ms. Hibbs required several stitches and had some bruises.

Her 10-year-old child was also in the home at the time, but neither child was hurt.

When police arrived, they found Mr. Hibbs walking out the door of the trailer with a rifle. Mr. Hibbs put down the gun when asked and police arrested him.

Mr. Hibbs told police that he had had enough of this and he was "tired of his wife being on Facebook," according to the police report.

Police confiscated several guns from the home.
