A Washington County man was arrested after police say he tried to lure three children into his truck by promising them candy if they helped him find his lost dog, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday.

Jerry Zgorliski, 55, approached two girls, ages 10 and 8, and a 4-year-old boy in an alley behind Wilmington Street on Sunday and then got out of his truck and ran toward the children, reaching out for them, police said. He was unable to catch the children before they ran into a house.

Police said they located Mr. Zgorliski at his nearby Ellis Avenue home and arrested him without incident. He faces charges including attempted kidnapping and attempting to lure a child into a vehicle and is being held in the Washington County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond, court records show.
