The Chartiers Valley school board voted Tuesday to hire two faculty positions in the district. The board unanimously hired Peter Schintz as science curriculum leader at the primary and intermediate school and Abby Swain as a special education teacher at the high school. Mr. Schintz will also teach fourth grade at the intermediate school. School director Wendy Huntoon was absent.

Mr. Schintz previously worked as an elementary science coach in the Duquesne City School District and taught fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh grade there. Most recently he taught fourth and fifth grade at Propel Charter School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in teaching from Chatham University.

Ms. Swain has a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, math from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in special education from Edinboro University. Prior to being hired at Chartiers Valley, Ms. Swain taught eighth-grade pre-algebra, algebra and geometry at Big Beaver Falls Area School District.
