A 13-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital Monday after falling onto a concrete floor about 30 feet below at an abandoned mill in Glassport.
Glassport police said the boy, his brother, and another friend were playing at the abandoned steel mill on Third Street and Allegheny Avenue when the incident happened about 3 p.m. The boy was taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC; his condition has not been released.
Police said the boy climbed a ladder on the property, and was walking on a beam when he fell to the concrete below.
He was alert and conscious when paramedics got there.
The property is owned by an Indiana, PA man who runs a salvage business. The mayor of Glassport, Rosemary Bradley, said she plans to meet with the owner to discuss safeguards.
