Five decrepit buildings in South Park will be demolished by the end of the year, pending approval of Allegheny County Council, county Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Councilman John Palmiere, D-Baldwin Township, said in a news release Thursday.

The Duck Pond House, McConkey House, McConkey Barn and Sedota House are slated for demolition in 2014. Demolition of Schoonamaker Hall, to be done separately, is scheduled to begin by Oct. 1, 2014.

Mr. Fitzgerald, with Mr. Palmiere as a co-sponsor, will submit legislation to demolish the buildings to County Council for its June 3 meeting. If the plan is approved, the county will proceed with selecting a contractor and other necessary environmental steps.
