Renovations to the South Park Fairgrounds will begin Monday, the Allegheny County Department of Public Works announced today.
The $885,000 project, to be performed by Palombo Landscaping Inc. of Penn Hills, is scheduled to be completed by mid-November.
The fairgrounds will be closed during the work, the county said.
However, the South Park Cottage, the Museum Building, Agricultural Hall, Green Hornet and the Exhibit buildings will remain open.
The project involves selective site demolition of bleachers, concrete bleacher foundations, concrete steps and pavement, the cinder track, ballfield infields and backstops, fencing and landscape planters, the county said.
There will also be drainage improvements, and construction of new ballfields, portable bleachers, benches and fencing.
The renovations include the addition of new concrete stairs, reconstruction of the oval track and landscaping.
A concrete wall beside Catfish Run will be repaired and Palombo will install an underground conduit for electrical service for future events at the fairgrounds.
