Castle Shannon — The Community Library of Castle Shannon will offer a class about learning to use Facebook from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. May 5, 7 and 9 at the library, 3677 Myrtle Ave. Cost is $5 for all three classes. Register: 412-563-4552.


Baldwin Borough — A storytime for children from birth to 24 months and their caregivers will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Baldwin Borough Public Library, 41 Macek Drive. No registration required.

Jefferson Hills — Registration for the borough's summer recreation camp is being held through June 2 at Jefferson Hills Library, 925 Old Clairton Road, during regular library hours. The camp is for children ages 5 through 12 who live in Jefferson Hills or West Elizabeth and will be held from 9 a.m. to noon July 7-31. Cost: $30 per child. Whitehall — A family movie night featuring the movie “Frozen” will begin at 6:30 p.m. May 3 at the Whitehall Public Library, 100 Borough Park Drive. Online registration is required: or 412-882-6622.


Bethel Park — Bethel Park Lions Club will hold its annual White Cane Day solicitation from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the South Park Shops, Library and Baptist roads. The event raises funds for charities that assist those who are blind or vision-impaired. Lions members will be wearing orange apron vests.

Peters — A spaghetti dinner will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. May 4 at Wright’s United Methodist Church, 788 Venetia Road. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children, for eat in or take out.

Pleasant Hills — Pleasant Hills Lions Club will hold its "G-r-reat Giveaway" fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. May 3 at Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road. More than 250 prizes will be given away in raffles.


Nottingham — The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh, along with the Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation, will hold free public star parties beginning at dusk May 2 and 3 at the Mingo Creek Observatory near Shelter 10 in Mingo Creek County Park. Bethel Park — A sale offering slightly used and new children's clothes, furniture, books and toys will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.Saturday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Road.

Carrick — A spring rummage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 2 and 9 a.m. to noon May 3 at Spencer United Methodist Church, 117 Spencer Ave. Clothes, jewelry, toys, linens, housewares and other items will be for sale.


Elizabeth Township — The Elizabeth Township Historical Society will present vintage fashions from the "Downton Abbey" and Gatsby eras during luncheons at noon today through Saturday at the Boston Shoppes, 1903 Donner St. Admission: $25. Reservations: 412-751-6695.

Whitehall — A workshop on how to use a rain barrel will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Whitehall Public Library, 100 Borough Park Drive. The workshop is being held by Streets Run Watershed Association, Pennsylvania Resources Council and the library. Fee: $50 per person, $55 per couple. Fee can be paid at the class. Brentwood — The Brentwood Business Owners Association will hold its annual community paper-shredding day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Brentwood High School, 3601 Brownsville Road. Residents and business owners in Brentwood are invited to bring confidential documents, such as old bank and credit card statements, tax returns and other items.


Upper St. Clair — Poet Sam Hazo, founder of the International Poetry Forum, will speak and read a selection of his works at a South Hills College Club lunch event May 10 at the St. Clair Country Club, 2300 Old Washington Road. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. More information:
