South Fayette police Chief Louis Volle plans to retire April 18, township officials said Wednesday night.

Commissioners plan to approve his retirement and appoint an acting police chief during their meeting April 16.

Township attorney Jonathan Kamin said approval would be subject to the terms of a negotiated separation agreement.

Mr. Volle joined the township’s Deferred Retirement Option Plan, or DROP, a pension plan that allows police officers to accumulate a lump sum of money for retirement by continuing to work after they are otherwise eligible to retire and receive defined benefits.
