Peters — The Upper St. Clair League for the Arts will hold a gallery art show April 12-26 at the Lois Guinn Framing & Art Gallery, 3339 Washington Road. An opening reception will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at the gallery. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.


Pleasant Hills — A pancake breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon April 13 at the Pleasant Hills Borough Building community room, 410 E. Bruceton Road. Cost: $6 for adults; $4 for children ages 5 to 10; free for children younger than 5. Proceeds benefit the Thomas Jefferson String Ensemble.


Pleasant Hills — Author Stephen Mulligan will talk about memories of Three Rivers Stadium and the Civic Arena at noon April 17 during a meeting of the Retired Men’s Luncheon Group of Pleasant Hills in the fellowship hall of Pleasant Hills Community Prebyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road. Nottingham —The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh will hold a free star party at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Mingo Creek Park Observatory in Washington County. Directions:

Nottingham — The Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer an outdoor classroom for home-schooled children ages 5 to 11 at 10 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. next Thursday at the park office. Children will learn how to dye Easter eggs. Families are asked to bring their own hardboiled eggs. Cost: $2. Registration required: 724-228-6867.


Bethel Park — Shekinah Glory, an internationally renowned music ministry trio, will perform at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, 7 p.m. Monday and 7 p.m. Tuesday at South Hills Assembly, 2725 Bethel Church Road.

Jefferson Hills – Friends of Jefferson Hills Public Library will hold a used-books and boutique sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, with a preview party from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight. Tickets for the preview party are on sale at the library, 925 Old Clairton Road. Cost: $8 in advance, $10 at the door.

Bethel Park — Southwestern Pennsylvania Registered Nurses Club will hear a talk about music therapy at 9:30 a.m. April 15 in Hamilton Presbyterian Church, 4500 Hamilton Road. All registered nurses are welcome.

McKeesport — A free dramatic reading of the Civil War letters of a young man from Braddock will be read at 7 p.m. Saturday at the McKeesport Regional History & Heritage Center, 1832 Arboretum Drive.

Mount Oliver — Nazareth Housing Services, along with PNC Community Development Banking, will offer free talks for home buyers from 6 to 8 p.m.Tuesday and April 15, 22 and 29. Topics will include finances, budgeting, credit, lender expectations and special programs for first-time home buyers. Food and child care will be provided. Registration required: 412-381-6925.

Mt. Lebanon — A workshop on backyard composting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Lebanon Public Library, 16 Castle Shannon Blvd. The workshop will cover all aspects of composting, and participants will receive an earth machine compost bin. Cost: $50 a person, $55 per couple.
