A Fayette County jury on Monday found a man guilty of third-degree murder in the 2012 shooting death of a man in Uniontown.

Kurtavius Jermon Smith, 28, remains in the Fayette County Jail awaiting sentencing Feb. 25 for the shooting death of Marlin Crawford, 28, of Uniontown.

Smith and Crawford exchanged gunfire outside a housing complex on May 13, 2012, after trading shots two days earlier, Uniontown police said at the time.

No one was injured in the first incident, but on May 13, Crawford was shot once in the head and died at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.

Police said then that Smith told them he was acting in self-defense and that Crawford fired the first shots.
