A water main break this morning in Green Tree left about 40 residential customers out of water and will likely affect traffic for the evening rush, officials said.

Pennsylvania American spokesman Gary Lobaugh said an aging 12-inch water main ruptured about 5:30 a.m. on Poplar Street, creating icy conditions in some spots.

Crews will direct traffic through alternating lanes when they start making repairs late this morning. Service is expected to be restored to affected customers late this afternoon, Mr. Lobaugh said.

Water company crews have been salting both sidewalks and driveways where some water seeped as it ran downhill, he said.
