CLASSES

Bethel Park -- Tendai Manyeza, a missionary serving with the health program at the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, will speak about work in Zimbabwe at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Road.

FUNDRAISER

Jefferson Hills -- Bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Practice Golf Center Driving Range at 3000 Practice Tee Drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 7 and receive a free 15-minute golf lesson from local golf instructors. Proceeds benefit the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

Uniontown -- Share the Spirit, a holiday open house to raise funds for five nonprofits, will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Dec. 14 at the State Theatre Center for the Arts, 37 E. Main St., with Fayette County restaurants providing appetizers, entrees and desserts. The event is free, but guests are asked to make a donation to the American Heart Association, Boy Scouts of America, the Dowling Family Fund, Rotary International or the State Theatre Center for the Arts. HOLIDAYS

Baldwin Borough -- Build a gingerbread house at 11 a.m. Dec. 7 at the Baldwin Borough Community Library, 41 Macek Drive. Families are welcome, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required: 412-885-2255 or Baldwin@einetwork.net.

Bethel Park -- A night of service projects to honor the Christmas season will be held from 6:15 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Road.

Clairton -- A tree trimming party will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Clairton Public Library, 616 Miller Ave. Sign up at the library's main desk.

Dormont -- The 2004 animated film "The Polar Express" will be shown at 11 a.m. Dec. 7 and 1 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Hollywood Theater, 1449 Potomac Ave. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for children under 12 and seniors. There will be $1 popcorn and hot chocolate.

Jefferson Hills -- Unwrapped toys for a holiday toy drive for local families can be delivered to the Jefferson Hills Borough municipal center, 925 Old Clairton Road, by Dec. 15. Families in need of toys may fill out an application form available at the municipal center, Jefferson Hills Library or any of the West Jefferson Hills School District schools.

Pleasant Hills -- Deck the Halls, a family holiday celebration featuring crafts, games, music and snacks, will begin at 6:30 p.m. next Thursday at the Pleasant Hills Public Library, 302 Old Clairton Road. A $1 donation per child, and a half-dozen cookies per family, is requested and will be collected at the event. Register: 412-655-2424 or danylod@einetwork.net

South Park -- "A Christmas in Tuna Texas" will be presented by the South Park Township Public Library and performed by local actors from The Heritage Players at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Broughton Volunteer Fire Hall, 1030 Cochrans Mill Road. Tickets are $30 a person and include the performance and a traditional turkey dinner. The comedy musical is intended for adults only and Bring Your Own Bottle is permitted. Upper. St. Clair -- Breakfast at the Manger, an event featuring breakfast and the telling of the Christmas Story with live nativity, crafts, games and activities, will be held at 9 a.m. Dec. 7 in the Fellowship Hall of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2040 Washington Road. Cost is $5 for ages 2 through adults and free for children under 2.

Washington -- The Washington County Commissioners and Four Star Pizza will host the 30th annual Christmas at the Courthouse Concert Series during the lunch time hour Tuesday through Dec. 5 and Dec. 9-13 at the Washington County Courthouse, 1 S. Main St. Performances are free and the public is welcome.

MEETINGS

Bethel Park -- Deaf ministry service will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 8 in the multipurpose room of South Hills Assembly, 2725 Bethel Church Road, and will be followed by a luncheon.

Whitehall -- The Whitehall Green Thumbers Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 to learn about winter flower arranging at the Whitehall Borough Community Room, 100 Borough Park Drive.

PERFORMANCE

Upper St. Clair -- The Upper St. Clair High School Alumni Choir will give a free Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at St. Thomas More Church, 126 Fort Couch Road.

SALES

Baldwin Borough -- Baldwin Community United Methodist Women are having their annual homemade cookie sale from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 14 at the church, 5001 Baptist Road. Cookies will be sold for $8 a pound. Proceeds benefit missions.

Bethel Park -- A vendor and craft show will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 14 at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Road. Proceeds will benefit Prime Time Adult Care.

California -- California United Methodist Church will hold its annual homemade Christmas cookie sale starting at 9:45 a.m. Dec. 7 in the social room of the church, 227 Third & Liberty streets. Cost is $12 per box, which can be filled from a selection of more than 400 dozen different cookies.

Jefferson Hills -- Friends of Jefferson Hills Library will sponsor a cookie sale from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Jefferson Hills Municipal Center Community Room, 925 Old Clairton Road.

SPECIAL INTEREST

Bethel Park -- A candlelight service for those experiencing sadness during the holiday season will be offered at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Road.

South Park -- Scots Sunday, a celebration of Scottish heritage, will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Oliver Miller Homestead in South Park, on Stone Manse Drive. Admission is $2.

Upper St. Clair -- Bible study reflecting on Advent scripture passages will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays through Dec. 19 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2040 Washington Road. Child care is available. For more information: www.westminster-church.org or 412-835-6630.

TALKS

Beechview -- The Rev. Richard A. Infante, pastor of Our Lady of Grace Parish in Scott, will read his short story "Fields of Grace," about the generational tension in the priesthood, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at The Epiphany Association, 820 Crane Ave. Admission is $10 and includes light refreshments. Washington -- Marilyn Holt, head of the Pennsylvania Department of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and president-elect of the Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society, will be the guest speaker at noon Dec. 7 at the Genealogy Society of Southwestern Pennsylvania's annual general membership meeting and holiday luncheon at Citizen's Library, 55 S.
