Pennsylvania State Police charged a Louisiana man with vehicular homicide today in the death of a Morgantown, W.Va., man killed Monday night in a Fayette County crash.

Randall John Breaux, 35, of Lafayette, La., crossed the center line on New Geneva Road in Springhill and collided with a pickup truck driven by Sheldon Gene Smith, 60, around 7 p.m., state police said. Mr. Smith died at the scene.

The reason Mr. Breaux crossed into oncoming traffic is unclear, state police said.

The area is north of Point Marion, about a mile south of the Friendship Hill National Historic Site.

Mr. Breaux and his 13-year-old passenger, from Brownfield, were taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown with injuries. Mr. Breaux was in fair condition, but the condition of his passenger was not available.

Mr. Breaux has not yet been arraigned on the charges, which also include endangering the welfare of children and several traffic violations.
