A suspect was arrested late Friday in a shooting that critically wounded a man in Duquesne earlier in the day.

Allegheny County police said Christopher "Smacks" Westbrooks, 21, was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and weapons violations in the shooting of Allen Parker III, 22, of Duquesne.

Duquesne City police responded to the 100 block of North Third Street at 5:13 p.m. after receiving a call of a man shot. They found Mr. Parker with gunshot wounds to the chest and trunk, and he was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital in critical condition, authorities said. County homicide detectives, called in to assist in the investigation, arrested Mr. Westbrooks inside a house on Penny Street in McKeesport. Police said he was hiding under garbage bags in the basement. McKeesport police and county sheriff's deputies assisted with the arrest. Mr. Westbrooks' address was not immediately available.
