West Mifflin -- The Community College of Allegheny County South Campus Theatre Company, Food for Groundlings, will present Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" at 8 p.m. today through Saturday and June 14 and 15 at the theater at 1750 Clairton Road. The performance is free and open to the public.


Peters -- West Penn Allegheny Health System will offer eight-week workshops in tai chi starting June 17 at both the WPAHS Outpatient Center in Peters and the professional building at Allegheny General Hospital on the North Side. Cost: $75 for one class per week, or eight classes; $130 for two classes per week, or 16 classes. Discounts available for WPAHS employees. Information: 412-362-8677.


McKeesport -- Sampson's Mills Presbyterian Church, 1665 Lincoln Way, will host a strawberry social from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. next Thursday. Admission, which includes sandwich, sides and strawberry desserts: $8; $4 for children younger than 10.

Whitehall -- The Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God are holding their monthly soup takeout fundraiser, offering homemade wedding soup, chicken tortilla soup and borscht. South Park -- The Bower Hill Community Church Haiti Water Project Fundraising Team will host its second annual Quench Haiti Fund Run on Saturday in South Park. Registration: 7 a.m. at Silent Brook Barn. 5K run/walk/stroller walk: 8 a.m. Under age 10 kid's fun run: 9 a.m. Cost: $25 for 5K; $5 for kid's run. Proceeds benefit Haiti solar-powered water purification project.

West Mifflin -- Busy Beaver West Mifflin will hold its second annual car cruise from noon to 4 p.m. June 22 at 2212 Lebanon Church Road. Event includes music by a disc jockey and prizes. Proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation. Rain date: June 29.


Dormont -- A farmers market is being held from 4 to 7 p.m. every Monday through Oct. 28 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church parking lot at Alabama and West Liberty avenues.

Pleasant Hills -- The Pleasant Hills Lions Club is holding a farmers market from 3:30 to 7 p.m. every Thursday through Oct. 17 in the parking lot of Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road.


Nottingham -- The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh, with the Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation, will hold public star parties beginning at dusk June 14-15 at the Mingo Creek Park Observatory near Shelter 10 in Mingo Creek County Park. Viewing will take place if the sky is clear or partly clear but will be canceled if it is raining or cloudy. No registration or fees required.

Nottingham -- The Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer a women's wilderness hike at 10 a.m. June 22 starting at the Mingo Creek County Park office. The event will start with a yoga warm-up followed by a moderately intense hike. A midday brunch will be served after the hike. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a large towel for yoga stretch. South Park -- John Kudlik, a professor of history at Community College of Allegheny County, will discuss the Vikings of Greenland at 7 p.m. Monday at South Park Township Library, 2575 Brownsville Road. To register: 412-833-5585.
