A fire in the pantograph of a Light Rail Transit vehicle forced its evacuation this morning.

No one was hurt, and fire did not enter the vehicle interior, Port Authority spokesman Jim Ritchie said.

The fire was reported at about 11:15 a.m. on an outbound Blue Line-Library vehicle near the Killarney station in Castle Shannon. Ten passengers were safely evacuated and firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, Mr. Ritchie said.

The passengers were placed on another vehicle and a tow was sent to the scene. The authority used single-tracking to continue service with minor delays while waiting for the damaged vehicle to be removed.

The pantograph is the arm that connects the vehicle to overhead electric wires.
