Tom Cruise is in town for the premiere of his new movie "Jack Reacher," and Hollywood's never felt so close.

So if you've got the acting bug, here's one way to get your foot in the biz.

Tonight, audition for "Lend Me a Tenor," a play that will be performed in March at the McKeesport Little Theater.

"We welcome anybody in the community to come out," said Cory McCaffery Sigler, the show's director. "Anybody that's interested in starting acting, that's never done it before, is welcome to come out and audition."

"Lend Me a Tenor," written by Ken Ludwig, is a comedy-farce that involves a great deal of mistaken identity, Mr. Sigler said. The play is set in 1934 at the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, where a series of mishaps upends a performance of "Otello," according to a summary written on the McKeesport Little Theater's website.

Community theater is a good place to get a start in acting or in theater work, said Mr. Sigler, who in addition to directing runs McCaffrey Mysteries, a traveling murder-mystery dinner theater production company based in Pittsburgh.

In fact, Mr. Sigler, 35, of South Park, got his start at the McKeesport Little Theater as a teenager.

"It's a community theater, which wraps its arms around the community," he said. "It's a steppingstone. There have been a lot of people that have been involved with McKeesport that have moved on to bigger things, myself included."

If you are the next Tom Cruise, you must start somewhere.

Tonight is the final night of auditions. Mr. Sigler needs to fill eight acting roles as well as several backstage positions.

No experience is necessary, but people who audition should be between their mid-20s and their 60s and should be available for the performances in March, for rehearsals every day the full week before the first show, and three days a week for rehearsals starting Jan. 3.

The show will be performed March 8-10, 15-17 and 22-24. A complete rehearsal schedule is not yet available.

The auditions tonight will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at the McKeesport Little Theater, 1614 Coursin St. Mr. Sigler will ask each man and woman who auditions to do a cold reading of the script with other actors. No appointment is necessary.

Bring a headshot and resume, if available, but it is not necessary.
