A prominent landlord was sentenced Wednesday to four years of probation and eight months of home confinement for filing a false tax return.

Jason Cohen, of Mt. Lebanon, was also fined $25,000 by U.S. District Judge Mark Hornak.

Mr. Cohen, whose companies include Trends Capital, failed to declare $283,000 in rental income that tenants paid in cash from 2006 to 2008, the Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS concluded. That cost the government $24,368.

Mr. Cohen's properties are mostly in the South Hills.
