ARTS

Baldwin Borough -- Artist Sue Levy will offer a class on painting seasonal watercolor pictures from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 18 and 25 and Oct. 2 and 9 at Baldwin Borough Public Library, 41 Macek Drive. Cost: $12 per class. Register by Sept. 10: 412-885-2244 or Baldwin@einetwork.net.

Mt. Lebanon -- South Arts, a nonprofit that teaches art courses in the South Hills, will hold an art exhibit titled Artist's Choice through Sept. 2 at the Galleria of Mt. Lebanon, 1500 Washington Road. The public is invited to a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Washington -- The Washington County Historical Society will hold its 19th annual Art in the Garden event, with artwork available for purchase, from 2 to 6 p.m. Sept. 9 in Madeline's Garden at the LeMoyne House, 49 E. Maiden St., rain or shine. Details: 724-225-6740.

CLASSES

Pleasant Hills -- A six-week course in sign language open to adults and teens 13 and older will be held beginning Sept. 18, with classes from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays at the public library, 302 Old Clairton Road. COMMUNITY DAY

FOOD

Bethel Park -- Bethel Park Lions will hold their annual fall fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 21 at Lions Park, 5757 Irishtown Road. Cost for fish or shrimp dinners, including coleslaw, French fries, macaroni and cheese and water, is $9. Takeout available. Hot dog dinner also available for kids. Proceeds benefit Lions charities.

FITNESS

Peters -- West Penn Allegheny Health System will offer tai chi, a combination of exercise and meditation that can help people coping with arthritis pain, in an eight-week workshop that begins Sept. 10 at the Outpatient Care Center, 160 Gallery Drive, and in the Professional Building at Allegheny General Hospital on the North Side. FUNDRAISERS

McKeesport -- McKeesport Symphony Pops will hold a wine, art and music fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 8 at The Historic Schoolhouse, 2600 South Park Road, Bethel Park. Tickets available at the door: $20 for one or $30 for two. Information: 412-664-2854 or www.mckeesportsymphony.org.

Upper St. Clair -- Narateen, an organization for young people affected by the drug or alcohol use of a loved one or friend, meets from 7 to 8 p.m. every Monday at the Upper St. Clair Recreation center, 1770 McLaughlin Run Road. Meetings are anonymous and open to anyone between the ages of 10 and 21 troubled by the drug or alcohol use of a family member of friend. Meetings are supervised by adult volunteers who are experienced members of Narcotics Anonymous. Parents and adult caregivers are not permitted to attend. MEETINGS

Brentwood -- A Pittsburgh Poetry Exchange, a poetry workshop for poets of any level of experience, will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 3 and on the first Monday of every month, at the public library, 3501 Brownsville Road. Bring a dozen copies of the poem.

Bethel Park -- The Southwestern Registered Nurses Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 18 at Hamilton Presbyterian Church, 4500 Baptist Road, and hear Gurney Bolster speak about tai chi. Registered nurses welcome. The club will hold its 13th annual fall card party from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 29 at the South Hills Country Club, 4305 Brownsville Road, in Whitehall. Proceeds go to the nursing scholarship fund. Admission is $25 and includes lunch and door prizes. Public is invited to attend.

OUTDOORS

Peters -- The Peters Township Public Library is resuming its free Listen While You Walk program at 9:15 a.m. Sept. 6, and each Thursday that follows. Walkers listen to audiobooks during a 30-minute walk on Arrowhead Trail, near the library at 616 E. McMurray Road. SPECIAL INTEREST

Bridgeville -- A grand opening will be held for the first solar model home in Newbury, a residential community in Pittsburgh's South Hills, from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the model home at 1101 Gromwell Lane.

Carrick -- A game day with lunch and prizes will be held from noon to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Spencer United Methodist Church, 117 Spencer Ave. Tickets are $12. Reservations: 412-881-4000.

TALKS

Mt. Lebanon -- State Rep. Matt Smith, D-Mt. Lebanon, and the Neighborhood Legal Services Association, will hold a seminar about last wills and living trusts from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 21 in Meeting Room A of the Mt. Lebanon Public Library, 16 Castle Shannon Blvd.
