A "Senior Celebration in the Park" will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday May 5, at the South Park Fairgrounds. The event is part of Older Americans Month; the theme is "Live Strong! Live Long!"
Morning refreshments and boxed lunches will be provided at no cost. ACCESS Transportation will provide free rides to the event from all 61 Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging senior centers, and free shuttles will be available to transport seniors to all exhibits and activities.

The Mt. Lebanon commission is looking for residents interested in serving on a newly formed ad-hoc committee to raise funds for the proposed Veterans Memorial to be constructed in Main Park.

The NAACP Washington Branch will host the 50th Human Rights Award Banquet at 7 p.m. May 7 at the Holiday Inn Meadowlands. Businessman and community activist James R. McDonald will receive the Human Rights Legacy Award.
The banquet will include a tribute to the late Louis E. Waller, who led the NAACP as president of the local chapter and State Conference for many years.
James R. McDonald received the Human Rights award in 1970 and will receive the Human Rights Legacy Award for his leadership and community activism that has spanned nearly five decades.
A public plans display for the Masontown Bridge replacement project will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. next Thursday May 6, 2010 in American Legion Post 423 on Route 21 in Masontown.
The Masontown Bridge carries Route 21 across the Monongahela River between Fayette and Greene counties.The project will replace the existing two-lane bridge with a new four-lane bridge along with approach roadway reconstruction.

West Jefferson Hills Schools student meals to cost more
At its April 27 meeting, the board approved a food service contract with Metz & Associates, effective July 1, 2010, through June 30, 2011, with meal prices of $2.05 for the elementary schools, and $2.25 for the middle and high schools.
The new prices reflect an increase of 10 cents for the elementary schools and 15 cents for the middle and high schools. It is the first increase in two years.
• The board awarded its digital copier contract to Canon Business Solutions Inc. at a total cost of $5,766.82 per month for a 60-month lease of 17 digital copiers throughout the district from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2015. The new contract saves the district $163,500 over five years compared with what it is currently paying for copier service for 15 copiers through October, which is $8,492 per month.
