Washington & Jefferson College has announced plans for the John A. Swanson Science Center, expected to open in 2010.
The center is named after a member of the board of the college who has provided a $10 million lead gift. Dr. Swanson, of The Villages, Fla., is founder of ANSYS Inc. He also has been a contributor to the University of Pittsburgh, where the John A. Swanson Institute for Technical Excellence bears his name.
At W&J, the science center will house primarily physics and chemistry and will be designed to enhance the teaching of cross-disciplinary connections.
The building will replace McIlvaine Memorial Hall at Lincoln and East Maiden streets.
