A 51-year-old Westmoreland County man was killed in a ski accident Saturday night at Seven Springs Mountain Resort.
Jeffrey C. Behr of Delmont was skiing on the Wagner Trail near the main lodge when another skier inadvertently struck the victim, according to state police at Somerset.
Police said both the skiers fell and that, during the fall, Mr. Behr "received an injury to his face and neck area." The accident happened at about 9:13 p.m.
Mr. Behr was treated at the scene and was transported to the Seven Springs Ski Patrol medical office where emergency medical technicians tried to save him. He was pronounced dead at that office by Somerset County Coroner Wallace Miller.
The investigation is continuing.
Katie Bouchan, communications manager for the resort in Somerset County, said resort staff is "deeply saddened by the tragic accident...While we continue to work to uncover the details as to how this occurred, our thoughts and prayers go out to this gentleman's family, friends and loved ones during this unspeakably difficult time."
The resort was open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and did not shut down in the wake of the accident.
It is open and operating as normal today.
