Twenty-one people from Pennsylvania and West Virginia have been indicted for their roles in a Philadelphia-to-Morgantown heroin and painkiller ring, the U.S. attorney in Wheeling announced today.
All of the defendants were named in an indictment handed up under seal on Nov. 5 following an investigation by the FBI and West Virginia state police.
The indictment was unsealed this morning after 13 of the defendants were taken into custody in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. U.S. marshals were hunting for the others.
Federal prosecutors said the ring members brought large quantities of heroin and prescription painkillers from Philadelphia for distribution in the Morgantown area.
