A Cambria County man was killed Friday night when the motorcycle he was driving was hit head-on by a pickup truck, state police reported.
The victim, William, Schwieters, 56, of Loretto, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 9:16 p.m. accident on Route 53 in Gallitzin Township, Cambria County.
According to state police, a pickup truck driven by Edward Roudybush, 27, of Gallitzin, was traveling south on Route 53 at a high rate of speed when it went out of control and crossed the double yellow lines. There it ran head on into the oncoming motorcycle driven by Mr. Schwieters, who police said was wearing a helmet.
Mr. Roudybush was taken to Altoona Regional Hospital. The extent of his injuries were not known, police reported.
