The 20-day-old daughter of a pregnant Somerset County woman who police said was fatally shot by the infant's father last month also has died.
The Allegheny County medical examiner's office said Abrianna Kovalcik was pronounced dead at 1:13 a.m. today at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.
The baby was delivered by emergency cesarean section after the May 31 shooting in Windber, Somerset County and taken to Children's Hospital, a representative from the medical examiner's office said. Autopsy results have not been completed.
State police in the Somerset barracks said Caressa Kovalcik, 23, of Windber died after she was shot inside the apartment she shared with Denver Blough, 25, and their 11-month-old son.
Mr. Blough is being held in the Somerset County Jail on charges of homicide, attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, and three counts of recklessly endangering another person. It was not immediately clear if he would also be charged in connection with the infant's death
