Two Allegheny County youths advance to semifinals at National Marbles Championship

Allegheny County officials today announced that girls marbles champion Kelsey Baran, 14, of McCandless, and county boys runner-up Bobby Narr, 11, of Lawrenceville, have advanced to the semifinals at the 91st National Marbles Tournament in Wildwood, N.J.
The semifinals will take place Friday morning with the finals immediately following.
After the third day of play, Kelsey was in third place in the girls division with 41 wins and 11 losses. Bobby was in fourth place in the boys division with 30 wins and 10 losses.
The marble shooters play more than 1,200 games during the four-day tournament to compete for national honors, college scholarships and numerous prizes and awards.
A news release said Allegheny County’s marbles program has produced a number of girls and boys national champions, including 10 in the past 10 years: Emily Cavacini in 2013; Bailey Narr and Brandon Matchett in 2011; Penelope Bauer in 2010; Amber Ricci and John Leffakis in 2008; Alexandra Bauer in 2007; Keith Moss in 2006; Jamie Miller in 2005; and Carly Miller in 2004.
