A Somerset man was seriously injured when he was unsuccessful at beating a train to a railroad crossing, state police said.

Brian R. Trent was injured about 9:50 a.m. today at a crossing on Geiger Road in Somerset Township.

Witnesses said railroad crossing lights were flashing when Mr. Trent drove his car across the tracks and was struck by a CSX freight train. The car spun along the tracks, and its rear end was struck by the train again, troopers said. The car finally stopped after the train pushed it farther along the tracks.

Mr. Trent was being treated at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown,
