Mayor, Pittsburgh Foundation set up memorial fund for city K-9 Unit

The Pittsburgh Foundation is accepting donations for The Officer Rocco K-9 Memorial Fund, Mayor Bill Peduto's office announced today.

Money that comes into the fund will be used exclusively for the benefit of the K-9 Unit of the city police department, the mayor said. It will be used to buy equipment such as protective vests for police dogs and for training and facilities for the dogs and their partners.

The funeral for Rocco, the police dog who died after being stabbed last week in a suspect apprehension, is being held today at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in Oakland.
