A judge held for court charges against an Allentown man who police say drunkenly caused a crash in Duquesne Heights that killed one man and injured four other people.

Robert Freund, 21, faces charges of homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter and other crimes in connection with a crash near the intersection of Saw Mill Run Boulevard and Lewis Street on Dec. 22.

Police wrote in a criminal complaint that Mr. Freund was speeding north on Saw Mill Run Boulevard at about 9:15 p.m. when he lost control, crossed the median and collided head-on with a Toyota Highlander.

Inside the Highlander was James Posey, 60, who was trapped in the car and died at the scene of the crash. Also in the car were three others who were taken to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

After that crash, another car, a 1995 Geo Prism, rear-ended in the Highlander, police said, because the driver did not have enough time to react to the initial crash. The driver of that car was taken to UPMC Presbyterian.

His formal arraignment is scheduled for March 4.
