Chill to set in later this week in Pittsburgh area

If the mild weekend inspired daydreams of spring, cold reality will set in this week, according to the National Weather Service.

The coldest weather of the season is expected by week's end, with overnight lows plunging into the single digits Thursday night. A low of 9 is forecast for Thursday and a low of 8 on Friday. The coldest temperature recorded so far this season was 10 on Christmas and on Dec. 12.

Snow showers are possible in the district today and Tuesday, with only slight accumulations expected. Today's high will be in the upper 20s, with an overnight low projected at 21, according to the weather service.
