An Emlenton man was crushed to death this morning at a Clarion fiberboard plant.

Kenneth Nichols, 56, was killed around 10 a.m. when he was trying to fix a machine at Clarion Boards in Shippenville that was leaking hydraulic oil, Clarion County coroner Terry Shaffer said.

He was performing maintenance "and he got crushed between a roller and a frame of a roller," Mr. Shaffer said. "He probably didn't take some of the safety precautions he should have. He didn't lock the system down."

He was pronounced dead at 11:25 a.m. The incident was ruled an accident by the coroner's office.

"Other employees tried to help him, but they couldn't get to him in time," Mr. Shaffer said.

Clarion Boards could not immediately be reached for comment.
