State police at New Castle are investigating a report of an attempted child abduction Saturday evening in Lawrence County.

Police said a six-year-old boy was playing on his swing set in his yard along Line Street in Perry when a man approached the child and began to speak to him.

The child reportedly became fearful and attempted to run into his home but the unknown man grabbed the child by the back of his shirt, police said. The child wrested himself free and ran into his house while the man fled through neighboring yards, police said.

The man is described as white, between the ages of 30 and 40, standing about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, of medium build, with light or blond hair, a beard, and a skeleton tattoo with three letters on a forearm. He was wearing shorts and a t-shirt, police said.
