Two Indiana County men fabricated a story about an armed carjacking to cover up a hit-and-run crash they were involved in, state police said.

Jakeb P. Schrecongost, 18, and Jessie J. Wood, 22, told police May 2 that they picked up a hitchhiker who forced them from their vehicle at gunpoint and stole the vehicle.

State police in Indiana said during their investigation, they located the crashed vehicle along State Route 422 near Route 119.

The men told state police they fabricated the armed robbery report to conceal their involvement in the hit-and-run.

Mr. Wood has been charged with a misdemeanor count each of filing false reports to law enforcement and selling or furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Mr. Schrecongost faces a misdemeanor count of filing false reports to law enforcement and a summary offense of purchasing, consuming, possessing or transporting alcohol.
