A defense attorney said a Somerset man accused of having moved a friend's corpse out of his apartment into the dead man's pickup truck plans to plead guilty as soon as a hearing can be arranged.

The (Somerset) Daily American reported that Michael Moore, 37, apologized Friday to the family of 53-year-old Frankie Sass.

Defense attorney William Carroll said his client wanted to spare the family "a whole lot of turmoil" by pleading guilty to abuse of a corpse.

Police said Mr. Sass showed up at Mr. Moore's apartment in January and was later found dead, so he and others put the body in the truck and left the vehicle elsewhere in the borough.

Mr. Moore was sentenced Thursday to four months to two years in a drug case.
