A 17-year-old boy died this morning when he lost control of the car he was driving, swerved across a road in Blacklick, Cambria County, and eventually flipped the car.

State police from the Ebensburg barracks said Derek Brothers, of Nanty Glo, was driving west on Alie Buck Road in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am about 7:25 a.m. when he lost control for "unknown reasons."

Troopers said in a news release that the car swerved along the road before heading onto Cardiff Road, which intersects with Alie Buck Road. It then hit an embankment and rolled over.

Derek, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car and died at the crash scene. His passenger, Tyler Gerber, 19, of Ebensburg, was trapped inside the car. Medics transported him to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown. breaking - region
