A man killed himself late Wednesday night after shooting his estranged wife at a home in Springhill, Fayette County, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Joni Ann Bowers, 33, was in critical but stable condition and was undergoing surgery at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., after the incident, which occurred shortly after 10 p.m., state police said this morning.

She and her husband, Grant L. Bowers, 32, had been separated for about three weeks when he went to a home on Morgantown Road where she was staying. The two started arguing, and Mr. Bowers took out a handgun and shot Ms. Bowers before shooting himself in the head, police said.
