No one was injured and no shots were fired during an armed bank robbery in Ross on Wednesday afternoon, but two felons in their 60’s have been charged in the incident, police said.
Douglas Silva, 61, and Albert Clemons, 64, both of the North Side, were taken into custody following the incident, which was reported at the First Niagara Bank on McKnight Road just before 3 p.m.
Ross Detective Brian Kohlhepp said that the two men went into bank, brandished handguns, demanded cash, and fled the scene in a white Toyota Camry.
A witness called police to report the direction of the fleeing vehicle, and Shaler police attempted a traffic stop. The two men drove along Wetzel Road and pulled into the VFW where they abandoned the car and attempted to escape on foot, but authorities detained the two men and took them into custody. The two weapons and stolen cash were also recovered, the detective said.
Both men were charged with robbery. Silva additionally faces charges related to the pursuit and felon not to possess a gun, and Clemons is charged with possession of a stolen gun, and felon not to possess a gun, the detective said.
